I was particularly interested in searching for differences among genders, disciplines, number of years within academia, and particular characteristics of institutions. My guess was that there must be something I could learn by posing the question on how different universities (private and public) may provide different perceptions of time and space. This particular set of interviews that I used for this book are 30 Imagining Time and Space in Universities oriented to ask men and women from the fields of medicine, nursery, sociology, psychology, education, arts, theater, aesthetics, economy, physics, social work, literature, engineering, and anthropology from two different universities in Chile about the meanings attached to travel, the limits of the discipline in relation to the present pressures of the international way to produce universities based on new policies on institutional accreditation and publications standards.

This idea of living in dialectical tension between cultures, languages, and places has brought a political consciousness when writing about bodies in motion . To conclude, a discussion of further implications and critical reflections that have emerged from the process of thinking about space and time as relevant to question ways to become institutional subjects is central to the theoretical imperatives of this book. I have come to look at the process of understanding/interpreting as a way of being.

In the concluding chapter, I explore the implications of transnational spaces and times and their implications on the ways we conceptualize and represent various subjectivities and practices of internationalization in higher education. In making sense of the dimensions of time and space, I seek to move forward from a separation of both to explore new ways of thinking that requires the broadening of academic imagination to create new representations of practices in universities. I contend that the regulation of subjectivities and practices in universities through single trajectories created as effects of using dominant conceptualizations of time and space leaves no opening for an active politics.
